Past Event: James R. Boyce Affordable Housing Studio Symposium 2024

On May 2, the Terner Center hosted a discussion and presentation on the challenges and opportunities of developing mixed-income and mixed-use transit-oriented communities.

The full-day symposium at UC Berkeley’s Bauer Wurster Hall Gallery was the culmination of the James R. Boyce Studio course, co-taught by Tomas McKay, McKay Architecture, Claire Parisa, Enterprise Community Partners, Daniel Simons, David Baker Architects, and Terner Center Managing Director Ben Metcalf.

Interdisciplinary teams of graduate students presented their proposed developments for the El Cerrito Del Norte BART station area, with an emphasis on applications of industrialized construction.

The event included remarks from Andrew Anagnost, CEO, Autodesk, and a panel discussion featuring Lynn von Koch Liebert, Executive Director, California Strategic Growth Council; Rebecca Foster, Chief Executive Officer, San Francisco Housing Accelerator Fund; Doug Shoemaker, President, Mercy Housing California; and Sara Pacelko, Director of Product Design, Volumetric Building Companies.
