Terner Center Welcomes Inaugural Cohort of Emerging Leaders as Terner Student Fellows

The Terner Center is pleased to welcome three Master of City Planning graduate students in UC Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design as the inaugural cohort of Terner Student Fellows. Established to commemorate the 30th anniversary of I. Donald Terner’s passing, the Terner Student Fellowship seeks to train the next generation of leaders in affordable housing development, finance, and policy. 

Grace Daniels graduated from Tulane University School of Architecture having studied broadly across the fields of real estate development, architecture, design, and preservation. 

Grace’s professional background is largely anchored in affordable housing development, with experience in both subsidized (4 percent and 9 percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and state and federal Historic Tax Credits and unsubsidized (workforce housing) deal structures. Having worked in for-profit, nonprofit, and public-private housing development, Grace is eager to contribute to the incredible work happening at the Terner Center. 

Christie Li  previously worked as a community planner at the Chinatown Community Development Center in San Francisco, where she co-authored reports on the economic development of Chinatowns across North America. In this role, she also collaborated with organizational partners as a member of the San Francisco People’s Budget Coalition, as well as coalitions supporting transportation justice and capital project renovations. 

An alumna of Wellesley College, Christie has also worked at various community-based museums and archives. 

Isabel Tapogna is deeply committed to expanding access to affordable housing and advancing equitable community development.

Prior to UC Berkeley, she served as a Housing and Community Investment Analyst at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, where she evaluated Affordable Housing Program applications, conducted housing policy research, and supported program design initiatives. Raised in Portland, Isabel earned a BS in Economics and Planning, Public Policy, and Management from the University of Oregon and holds a Certificate in Real Estate Development from Boston Architectural College.
